Comfort Quilts

This is Hilda and she is my quilting teacher. She is amazing; she teaches quilting, works at the hospital and to keep from getting bored at a local chiropractor. She began making Comfort Quilts this year for cancer patients at people's request. It has been growing and there has been an increasing the number of requests. She has been getting donations from people and I am going to make a request if you are interested please contact me. She has her students help put them together and has a pastor pray that they will be used to bring comfort. Well all this is to say last week I thought it might be good to put a quilt together for Rowena a little girl from Guyana who is to have heart surgery. I called Hilda and she said we would make it happen and the following pictures are the result.
Aaron helping, sort of.
The finished product ready to go to the quilter.
If you would be interested in making other comfort quilts possible please contact me and will connect you up with the right people.

Random Bits and Pieces

Well yesterday we went to see a special doctor in Huntingdon in regards to Aaron positive TB test. Lots of good news. We are going to give tablets and they can be crushed and put in anything but dairy products. We don't have to start until after conference and once again the doctor said he is a healthy baby. Also he is exactly 20 pounds so we can turn the car seat. Yeah.!!!!

Also today I worked for the first time in three months. It felt good but weird. I liked doing it but I also liked the fact that it won't be regular and I will be home with Aaron. By the way Dad(Perry) did baby sitting duty and did great.

Well last but not least here are some pictures of the last quilt I have made. I must confess that I enjoy my weekly quilt class. I hope that Sam and Karl enjoy this. A really cool thing our
class is doing is making comfort quilts. They make quilts that are given to cancer patients and they have a pastor pray for them and that the quilt will be used to bring comfort. I think it is cool. I am in the process of making a wall hanging for my dining room because I haven't found a picture the right size. In a little while I post pictures of that.

For Aunt Cindi

Here are a couple of pictures in outfits Aunt Cindi had picked up for him. I am so appreciative with all the things going on in her life she took time to spoiled Mr. Aaron. I love the fact that these are one piece outfits. I am a mom who likes not having to match. They tend to be easy to get on and off easy.

We are getting ready for big doings this weekend. We have church as usual, a wedding and the big event of the weekend...Anthony's birthday party. I am looking forward to Aaron getting to play with Anthony. Hopefully I will remember to take pictures and not just bring my camera along.

Haircut

Well Aaron had his first haircut. I was a delinquent mother. I forgot the camera but I got the hair. It is a tiny amount but he was a good sport. He let her comb it and cut it but didn't like us playing with his ears to it. She didn't do any razors.

I am incredibly grateful to my husband. Many mornings when he is off he gets up with Aaron and lets me sleep in. He will watch Aaron so I can rest or do other things that don't get done otherwise. I am reminded that I am so blessed by helpful, loving and patient husband.

Since I am waxing sappy. I must say that Aaron has turned our world upside down but I love it. I walk into my living room which I daily clean up and Aaron daily puts his toys back again. And despite the business I am happy. I was never a diligent cleaner but now I squeeze it in during naps and moments when he is entertaining himself well. And this is okay with me. So if you come to my house it will not be perfectly clean but that is okay. I love seeing him laugh and learn new things. His joy in music and making noise in a microphone and his determined crawl. I love the fact that life is simple. Thank you Lord for my precious gift.

First Big Scare

We have had Aaron fall out of his stroller and fall against the entertainment center and fall off the couch but generally he was no worse for the wear. However we had a freak out moment as parents in the past few days. Aaron had his vaccines at the pediatrician and he had a TB test. For all you mom's out there this is not a typical test for infant so your doctor probably won't be giving your children this. Aaron was born in a country where TB is common and so it is not unusual for us to do this test. He also had a worm test which was negative so I am like life is great no worries health wise. Well Aaron had a positive test. Which meant he had to have a chest X-ray and I had to call the health department. Being a pharmacist I am trying to figure out how to avoid giving him medicine. Well Aaron does not have any active disease so he can't share but the general recommendation is prophylaxis which means to treat to prevent disease. This is not a lot of fun we are looking at 6 to 9 months of treatment. But in the long run it is best. I am reminded again to be thankful that Aaron is healthy and we are dealing with this now instead of when he was sick. Pray that Aaron will be a good sport about taking the medicine. We see a special doctor at the end of July which will decide exactly which medicine we will use.

A Couple of Requested Recipes

Today Katrina asked for a couple of recipes from the last couple of days so here they are...

Lettie Bond's Chicken Biscuit

1 Tbsp butter

1/4 cup diced onions

1/4 cup sliced celery

1/3 cup water

1 can cream of chicken soup

~1 cup of cooked chicken

Saute in butter onions and celery. Add soup and water. Add chicken bring to a boil. Pour into 9 x 13 pan. Top with biscuits. Bake at 425 for 15-20 minutes.

Notes:

-You can use any creamed soup. I often use cream of mushroom.

-Perry doesn't like celery so I make it without

-I like dinner in a pot so I throw in mixed veggies

-The biscuits can be made from scratch, drop or buy the fridge variety(suggest the small biscuits so they cook through faster) If you use the grands you may need to cook longer.

-Chicken can be from the can or left over from the night before. Also you can use turkey.

Berry Buckle (Lion's Cookbook)

2 cup flour

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 tsp salt

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 cup of shortening

3/4 cup milk

1 egg

2 cup berries (blueberries,raspberries)

Topping:

1/2 cup sugar

1/3 cup flour

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 cup soft butter

Preheat to 375. Blend all ingredients except berries. Then gently add berries and place in greased 8 inch pan. Mix topping ingredients. Place on top of batter and bake for 45 to 50 minutes.

Notes:
-I made this with black raspberries, the original recipe was for blueberries
-This recipe can easily be made 1/2 splenda and sugar. Also margarine worked just fine in the topping.

Enjoy

Fourth of July

We had a wonderful 4th of July. It involved eating too much and spending time with friends and family and telephone calls. Dad had been wanting to have plain old burgers and hot dogs. We sort of obliged by having these items and he also bought some hot - hot dogs and some cheese ones. Mama made potato salad(some of the best in the business) and baked beans. I got off easy Perry made tea and I made cobbler. We had some extra special guests - Ben Hanah and Isaac from church. They had picked some of the berries that went in the cobbler. Due to rain the party that was supposed to happen at mom's happened at my house. Good eats occurred and Perry went to the parents to watch the baseball game. This is one thing Perry misses with the cable cut.

Today is Seth's birthday. Happy birthday.

We also had 17 people for lunch today. We enjoy the company. Perry is recovering and is such a good sport. I love him. I like to cook and have crowds but Perry needs some chill quiet time occasionally. Tomorrow we plan to have one of those days. I will post a couple of pictures later. I haven't down loaded yet.

Life's Adventures

Where do I begin. Life is full of so many small things. Aaron has figured out how to climb several stairs. His first experience was at Leland and Lettie's (Papa and NanNan) Bond. He loves anything that makes noise. He says Da when Perry comes home and loves playing with a ball. He went to West Virginia for Association and did wonderfully. Grandpop had him most of the day. He has made the switch to milk. The sad thing at a little over a year he is only 19lbs 4 oz which means we can't flip the car seat. Maybe next time. He is an inch taller. He had the pleasure of 4 shots and TB test.
Perry had to work an all night so he is trying to get his schedule back on straight. We have picked raspberries at Kevin and Katrina's Aaron tried and liked them, I have agreed to work vacations and emergencies on days when Perry is off. We will see what happens. Well this is just a quick update.
